Reports to: Facilities and Maintenance Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides basic building cleaning maintenance services as assigned. Performs a wide variety of custodial tasks including, but not limited to vacuuming, carpet shampooing, emptying trash, dusting, cleaning, replacing stock, tidying etc. May be assigned to Facilities Maintenance work groups to perform entry-level Facilities Maintenance Assistant tasks as needed.

JOB DUTIES

  1. Properly utilize cleaning agents and chemicals for best results, recognizing Mater Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) guidelines, manufacturer recommendations and supervisory instructions.
  2. Clean wood, linoleum, tile and other floors, treating floors when needed with wax, shampoo or other agents.
  3. Shampoo rugs and carpets utilizing appropriate chemicals and machines.
  4. Utilizes and ensures the display of appropriate safety signage and messages.
  5. Dusting all surfaces, moving items and replacing them where appropriate.
  6. Wash windows, walls, furniture, baseboards and other items
  7. Maintaining a thorough inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and report needs to supervision as appropriate.
  8. Use equipment such as commercial vacuums, floor buffers and carpet cleaners
  9. Collecting and taking out trash and recycling
  10. Has knowledge of and demonstrates proper ergonomic practices, personal protective and safety equipment and seeks guidance and instruction when unclear on proper procedure.
  11. Effectively operate current KCR electronic work order system. Must be able to complete appropriate reports and paperwork
  12. Perform daily, routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment as required and reports on status as appropriate.
  13. Report broken or damaged equipment to management immediately.
  14. Ability to work effectively with people of varying skill levels in a team environment.
  15. Maintains a professional and service-oriented demeanor in all interactions with KCR participants, staff and vendors.
  16. Other maintenance associated duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years of prior experience in custodial maintenance preferred.
  • Small appliance repair and maintenance experience preferred.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Washington State Driver’s license and the ability to be covered under the current KCR auto insurance plan.
  • Able to pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
  • Ability to pass a MERIT DCYS certification (national FBI fingerprint check)

WORK CONDITIONS:

  1. Physical capability to bend, stoop and to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly.
  2. Ability to safely operate power equipment like vacuums, floor buffers.
  3. Exposure to chemicals such as ammonia, bleach, cleaners.
  4. Safely utilize ladders.
  5. Wear appropriate work attire and protective gear.
  6. Demonstrated ability to operate electronic maintenance work order system computer application.
  7. Perform a varied work schedule, including being on-call for evenings and weekends, based on a year-round, 24/7 need.
  8. Must safely operate work vehicles to move from site to site.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Demonstrated cognitive ability to recognize appropriate equipment use as designed by manufacturers and instructed by supervisor.
  2. Demonstrated ability to cognitively recognize and accept verbal and written work instructions.
  3. Requires walking, reaching/stretching, intermittent sitting, twisting and bending.
  4. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
